Free Medical Screenings Related to Ash Spill
Oak Ridge
Associated Universities (ORAU), in conjunction
with Vanderbilt University Medical Center toxicology experts, will be
conducting free medical screenings this summer for Kingston/Roane
County residents affected by the Kingston Fossil Plant fly ash spill.

Police Dept Announces National Night Out
On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, the Kingston Police Department is hosting
the 2009 Second Annual National Night Out Against Crime. This
event is an opportunity for our citizens to come together and share
goals for a safe and healthy community. It also reinforces the
partnership of citizens and police to combat crime.
We are inviting you to take an active part in making the Kingston’s
National Night Out Against Crime a huge success by become a
contributing sponsor either financially or through product
donations. Donations will be used for door prizes and
gifts. What a great opportunity to promote your products and
business to the community. All donations will be greatly
appreciated.

We now
have a new URL for our webpage. Be sure to change your bookmarks
from kingston-tn.org to http://www.mykingstontn.com/. While we
are migrating servers, our council videos will be offline. Please
be patient as we work on reposting them.
Council Videos Now Available
The
City of Kingston is now making council meetings available as videos for
download. Videos are located on the Agenda page and require
Apple's
Quicktime or a new version of Windows Media Player to play. The
videos
are typically 2-3 hours long and may take a little while to download.
Ferguson and
Yager to Hold Constituent Meeting
State
Representative Dennis Ferguson and State Senator Ken Yager will
hold a listening conference for their constituents on Thursday, April
2nd from 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Kingston Community Center, located
at 201 Patton Ferry Road.
This meeting
will be open to the public. All constituents are invited to attend.
Michael
Dunn Center and Kingston - Shredding Day!
The City
of Kingston and the Michael Dunn Center want to help you
"Spring" into your annual cleaning by helping you shred all your
sensitive, unwanted documents. Council members and Michael Dunn
Associates will be on hand to accept documents. Shredding will be

Meeting
for Black Powder and Outdoor Enthusiats
An
exploratory meeting will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 6
p.m. at the Fort Southwest Point Visitors’ Center in Kingston, TN to
determine whether there is enough general interest in forming a
regional association. All related topics will be open for

Program at Kingston Public Library
Kingston
Public Library is happy to announce the on-going weekly
Children’s program will pick back up in January. Every Wednesday
at 11:00am the Library’s Children’s Program director, Ms. Barbara will
read to children and help them with crafts, play time, etc.

AARP Free Income Tax Assistance
AARP
Tax-Aide is offering free income-tax assistance and preparation
from 9 am - 1 pm every Tuesday at Kingston Community Center. No
appointment is necessary, it is handled on a first-come, first-serve
basis. AARP is one of the nation's largest free volunteer-run tax
assistance and preparation service now available to taxpayers with low
and middle income. Special attention is given to those age 60 and
older. The last day will be Tuesday, April 14th.

Kingston Fire Department Receives Grant
Kingston Fire
Department was awarded a TML Safety grant in the amount of $1500. They
used the money to buy medical equipment. This award is for city
departments to utilize or enhance safety in their community.
Kingston and Michael Dunn Center Team Up to Go Green
It seems like everyone is trying to be more environmentally conscious or "green". In an
effort to reduce the amount of waste transferred our area land fills, Kingston
is teaming up with Micheal Dunn Center to promote recycling. Micheal
Dunn offers curb side recycling as well as on site shredding for home

As
a service to our citizens, the City of Kingston Department Heads are
available to speak on a variety of subjects including: Identity

Volunteer Energy Cooperative for the Library’s 2009 Summer Reading

December Egg Hunt with a Red and White Twist
Kingston Parks and Recreation would like to invite
families to their annual Candy Cane Hunt, December 6th. Children ages
four and under begin @12:00 p.m. and five to eight begin @ 1:00
p.m.
The event will be held at Kingston City Park. Refreshments and pictures
with Santa will be available.
State Rep Ferguson Announces Coats for the
Cold
State Representative Dennis Ferguson announces his Coats for the Cold
annual event to collect and distribute warm coats to the less fortunate
in the 32nd District. Coats will be collected beginning now
through Friday, November 21st ONLY, at Clean N Press Express
(865-376-5330) in Midtown. Representative Ferguson believes the
program is very important to the community and he is asking for your
support to continue the effort. The coats will be distributed on
Sunday, November 30th at Wal-mart in Rockwood beginning at 2 p.m.
Kingston Parks Recieves TRPA Award
Congratulations to Kingston Parks and Recreation and director
Rick Ross for being the winner of the 4-Star Renovated Facility for
Legion Field. This award is given by the State of Tennessee
Recreation and Parks Association. This is the second state award
recieved under Rick's management of the Parks and Recreation Department.

Parade Forms Now Available

Continuing Kingston has now made forms available to register for the
Kingston Christmas Parade. It will be held on Monday, December

Spook'tacular
to be at Southwest Point This Year

ages 12 and under, to participate in its annual Spook'tacular.
This year there will be games, trick or treat'ing, ghost stories, and a
new carved jack-o'lantern contest. The even will be held at Fort

Police, Lodge 69 will host a motorcycle ride in support of the Fallen
Officer Memorial. Details are:

Public Library Announces Change in Operating Hours

Steve Jacks, Director
of Library Services, has announced that effective October 1, 2008, the
Kingston Public Library will be operating under a new schedule.
The library will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday and
Thursday; 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; and
9:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. The change in hours is
due to projected increases in heating and cooling costs.
Mr. Jacks stated that the expanded hours on Monday and Thursday will
give those patrons who normally cannot make it to the library during
the week more opportunity to use the library. For more

Summer Library Programs

Lots of fun and
entertainment for Adults and Children is in the works at the Kingston
Public Library this summer. We hope you will join us for one,
two, or all the events planned.
The Summer Program for children is OUTERSPACE and is scheduled every
fun Wednesday starting at 1:00 pm beginning on June 25 and continuing
on July 9, 16, and 19. Storyteller Elizabeth Rose; Magnificent
Magician Ron Mayhew; and Dr. David Fields, Astronomer from Roane State
Community College (RSCC) will be guest speakers. Kids, parents
and Library personnel will travel to the RSCC Observatory on July 19
for night-time telescope viewing. Along with space food, awesome
space crafts and games will provide fun for all. There is no
charge for this program.
Every Wednesday at 11:00 we have a Children's Story hour for little
ones to 5 years of age are welcome to enjoy Ms. Barbara's fun story
reading and crafts.
For ages 11-17 this year's program is all about the Weather. This
program begins at 1 p.m. on July 21 and continues through July
25. On the last day, there will be an opportunity to do a weather
report and be recorded on video. Speakers from the University of
Tennessee, WBIR Channel 10, and the National Weather Center will
provide lots of information. Please call to sign up for this
program.
We hope children of all ages have the opportunity this summer to learn,
enjoy, and be amazed by everything the Kingston Public Library has to

Kingston recieves Certificate of Achievement for Gallaher Road Sewer

The City of Kingston
received a Certificate of Achievement for its Gallaher Road Sewer
Project from the East Tennessee Development District on June 5, 2008,
at the Museum of Appalachia in Clinton, Tennessee. The annual
dinner meeting of the Development District was attended by about 250
local city and county officials from the 16 county area. Kingston
received one of only 16 awards presented at the meeting. Mayor
Troy Beets, Councilwoman Teresa Ferguson, and City Manager Jim
Pinkerton received the award on behalf of the city.

the special guest on the Watts Bar Belle June 28, 2008, from 6:00 to

music will be provided by the River Sharks for a charge of $75 per
